Women’s Race: Kat Matthews Destroys the Course Record

Britain’s Kat Matthews delivered one of the most dominant performances in IRONMAN New Zealand history at Taupo on 7 March 2026, crossing the finish line in 8:28:55 — more than 10 minutes faster than the previous course record. Matthews led from the front throughout and extended her advantage on the run to claim a commanding victory in the opening race of the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series.

Men’s Race: Trevor Foley Holds Off Debutant Pierre Le Corre

American Trevor Foley surged past home favourite and pre-race contender Kyle Smith midway through the run to claim the men’s title. He held off a powerful late charge from Pierre Le Corre (FRA) — an Olympic-distance champion who had completed just two weeks of IRONMAN-specific training before the race. Reigning champion Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) suffered a mechanical on the bike followed by nutrition issues on the run, ending any hopes of a title defence.
