Challenge Roth 2026 Pro Field: Blummenfelt, Laidlow, Lange and Vincent Luis’s Long-Course Debut

Challenge Roth 2026 on 5 July in Bavaria could be the most compelling long-course race of the year. With 31 pro men and 20 pro women confirmed, the field assembled for triathlon‘s most iconic race is being called one of the greatest in the event’s history — and the storylines have never been richer.

The Big Three Are All Starting

Kristian Blummenfelt, Sam Laidlow and Patrick Lange — three Kona champions between them — are all confirmed at Roth. Laidlow and Lange arrive in exceptional form after their record-breaking performances at IRONMAN Lanzarote just six weeks earlier. Lange holds the Roth bike course record and Blummenfelt’s VO2max of 97.5 makes him a threat on every course. This trio alone would make Roth unmissable.

The Headline: Vincent Luis Goes Long

The biggest talking point is France’s Vincent Luis making his full-distance Ironman debut at Roth. Luis is a two-time ITU World Short-Course Champion, three-time Olympian, and two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion — arguably the most decorated short-course athlete of his generation. Whether his exceptional VO2max and tactical racing intelligence translate to 10-plus hours of racing is the question the whole sport is waiting to answer. His debut at 70.3 World level produced immediate success; a similar trajectory to full distance would make him a future Kona contender within two years.

Women’s Race: Philipp vs Matthews

Germany’s Laura Philipp is the home favourite and will receive enormous crowd support across Roth’s iconic 180km bike course. Philipp has been one of the most consistent performers in long-course triathlon for several years and knows this race inside out. Kat Matthews, the British star and multiple Kona podium finisher, provides the stiffest international challenge. With 20 pro women entered, the depth in the women’s race is equally impressive.
