T100 Gold Coast 2026 Race Preview: Kate Waugh Leads Stacked Women’s Field

T100 Triathlon World Tour Returns to Gold Coast

The inaugural T100 Triathlon World Tour season gets underway on the Gold Coast, Australia on 21–22 March 2026, marking a new era for professional long-distance triathlon racing. After the success of the 2025 T100 series, the 2026 format has been elevated with a $275,000 prize pool per race and a single-gender focus per event — this time it is the women who take centre stage on Sunday 22 March.

The Women’s Field: Kate Waugh Headlines

Reigning T100 champion and world number one Kate Waugh leads the field, looking to defend her title at the first race of the new season. The British athlete dominated the 2025 T100 standings and arrives in Queensland as the heavy favourite.

  • Kate Waugh (GBR) — 2025 T100 champion and world #1, the benchmark for the entire field
  • Julie Derron (SUI) — T100 series runner-up in 2025, highly competitive over the 2km swim / 80km bike / 18km run format
  • Taylor Knibb (USA) — 2024 T100 series champion, Paris Olympic silver medallist, outstanding bike strength
  • Ashleigh Gentle (AUS) — home favourite racing in front of Queensland fans, consistent T100 podium contender
  • Ellie Salthouse (AUS) — second home favourite, strong all-round athlete with local course knowledge
  • Lucy Byram (GBR) — emerging British talent, one to watch in her first full T100 World Tour season
  • Holly Lawrence (GBR) — former Challenge Family champion with deep long-distance experience
  • Sara Perez Sala (ESP) — Spain’s top long-distance athlete, powerful on the bike leg

Race Format and Course

The T100 Triathlon World Tour distance consists of a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run — a step up from standard Olympic distance but shorter than a 70.3. This middle-distance format rewards athletes with exceptional all-round speed rather than pure endurance. The Gold Coast course is largely flat and fast, which should produce competitive times throughout the field.

When and How to Watch

The women’s T100 professional race takes place on Sunday 22 March 2026. The race will be streamed live via the official T100 Triathlon website and associated broadcast partners. Check the PTO’s social channels for live updates throughout race day. For UK viewers, remember the time difference — the Gold Coast is UTC+10, so an early morning start in the UK.

Our Prediction

Expect Kate Waugh to go close to defending her title, but Taylor Knibb’s bike power could prove decisive on the flat Gold Coast course. Julie Derron’s consistent 2025 form makes her another strong podium contender. With home crowd support behind Ashleigh Gentle and Ellie Salthouse, there could be a surprise Australian result. This is shaping up to be one of the most exciting T100 openers in the series’ history.
