PTO, World Triathlon and Challenge Family Unveil the 2027 Triathlon World Tour

Professional triathlon’s fragmented calendar is about to get a single name. On 24 July 2026 in London, the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO), World Triathlon and Challenge Family jointly unveiled the Triathlon World Tour — a unified elite competition structure due to launch in 2027.

How We Got Here

The move follows an acquisition announced in February 2026, in which the PTO took a majority shareholding in Challenge Family from Y11 Sport & Media. Challenge Family’s full 2026 calendar of more than 35 events continues to run under the Challenge Family brand as normal this year — nothing changes for athletes racing Challenge events in 2026. The integration only takes effect from 2027.

The 2027 Structure

The Triathlon World Tour will run as three tiers:

• T50 World Championship Tour — shorter-distance elite racing (the rebranded World Triathlon Championship Series). Nine events between March and November 2027, with the finals in Hamburg, 8-12 September 2027.
• T100 World Championship Tour — longer-distance elite racing (built on the existing T100 Triathlon World Tour). Eight events between March and December 2027, with the finals in Qatar, 10-11 December 2027.
• Challenger events — a feeder tier absorbing the former World Triathlon Cup races and Challenge Family’s existing calendar, giving athletes a route up into the two championship tours.

Every event across all three tiers is designed to combine a professional race, an age-group race on the same course, and broadcast coverage — the PTO has stated an ambition to eventually build this into a 100-event global series.

A UK Race Joins the Top Tier

The London Triathlon has been named as one of the T50 World Championship Tour’s host cities, scheduled for 21-22 August 2027 — putting a major UK amateur race weekend on the same calendar as the sport’s top-tier elite series for the first time.
