Lanzarote World Cup 2026 Results: Nina Eim and Cantero Del Campo Win Inaugural Race

The inaugural World Triathlon Cup Lanzarote delivered a thrilling race day on 14 March 2026, with Germany’s Nina Eim taking the women’s title and Spain’s David Cantero Del Campo overcoming a 10-second penalty to claim a dramatic men’s victory on the Canary Island course.

Women’s Race Results

Germany dominated the women’s race as Nina Eim crossed the line first ahead of a quality field. Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown finished just five seconds back in silver, with Laura Lindemann completing the podium for a German 1-3 finish. Taylor-Brown’s second place shows strong early-season form ahead of the WTCS Samarkand opener on 26 April, where LA28 Olympic qualification points begin in earnest.

Men’s Race Results

The men’s race produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the early 2026 season. Spain’s David Cantero Del Campo received a 10-second penalty during the run but powered through to cross the line first with a time of 54:45. Germany’s Tim Hellwig finished just three seconds behind in second, with Morocco’s Jawad Abdelmoula completing the podium in third, +16 seconds back. Cantero Del Campo’s ability to absorb a penalty and still win underlines the growing depth of Spanish triathlon.

Course and Conditions

Lanzarote’s debut on the World Cup circuit featured a sprint-distance format on a demanding Atlantic coast course based in Puerto del Carmen. The volcanic island’s infamous wind conditions tested athletes on the exposed coastal bike leg, while the run passed through the resort town in warm, sunny March conditions — a taste of the summer racing heat triathletes will face throughout the 2026 season.

What This Means for the Season

World Cup results do not award WTCS Olympic qualification points — those begin at Samarkand on 26 April 2026, following the postponement of the Abu Dhabi WTCS opener due to Middle East instability. However, Lanzarote provided valuable race sharpness for athletes targeting the full WTCS circuit. For Georgia Taylor-Brown in particular, the silver is a positive signal after her comeback season, and a reminder that the depth of women’s racing in 2026 will be fierce all the way to the LA28 selection cut-off.
