Manufacturers Test in a Best Case, Not Your Case
Headline battery figures are typically measured with GPS tracking on and almost everything else off — no music, no phone notifications, no backlight use, often a single-frequency GPS setting rather than the more accurate (and more power-hungry) dual-frequency mode. Turn on music streaming to headphones, leave notifications enabled, or use the backlight regularly during a night session, and real-world battery life drops well below the advertised number.
GPS Mode Matters More Than Most People Realise
Most current triathlon watches offer several GPS accuracy modes, often labelled something like “GPS only,” “all systems” (GPS plus GLONASS/Galileo/BeiDou) and dual-frequency.
