IRONMAN Texas 2026: Knibb, Blummenfelt and the Most Star-Studded Pro Field in Race History

The countdown to IRONMAN Texas 2026 is building to fever pitch. With more than 100 professional triathletes lining up in The Woodlands on April 18, the start lists rank among the most competitive ever assembled at a full-distance race. Defending champions, world record holders and Olympic gold medallists will all be in the water together — making this one of the most unmissable IRONMAN events of the decade.

Women’s Elite: A Three-Way Title Fight

The women’s race promises an explosive contest between three athletes who are all capable of winning on any given day.

  • Kat Matthews (GBR): Two-time defending Texas champion and current IRONMAN Pro Series leader. The British athlete arrives having dominated the early 2026 season and will be looking for a hat-trick in The Woodlands.
  • Solveig Løvseth (NOR): Reigning IRONMAN World Champion. Løvseth’s run speed and nutrition strategy are unmatched at full distance.
  • Taylor Knibb (USA): Three-time 70.3 World Champion, fresh off winning IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside. Knibb has been building toward full-distance racing all season and Texas is a statement opportunity.

Hannah Berry, Lisa Perterer and Jackie Hering complete a women’s field with genuine depth well beyond the podium positions.

Men’s Elite: Champions on Every Start Line

Five IRONMAN or 70.3 World Champions will line up at IRONMAN Texas — a gathering of full-distance talent that is almost without precedent in a single race.

  • Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR): Olympic champion and IRONMAN Texas defending champion. Blummenfelt has been in superb form through the 2026 season and starts as the marginal favourite.
  • Gustav Iden (NOR): Reigning IRONMAN World Champion. Iden will be pushing Blummenfelt hard in what will feel like a race within a race.
  • Casper Stornes (NOR): Another Norwegian IRONMAN World Champion. Norway is sending an armada.
  • Patrick Lange (GER): Three-time IRONMAN World Champion and two-time Texas winner. At his best, Lange’s marathon split is untouchable.
  • Jelle Geens (BEL): Making his IRONMAN full-distance debut. Geens joins a growing wave of elite short-course specialists testing the full distance.

What to Watch on Race Day

Texas is famous for its flat, fast bike course and scorching conditions. The 180km ride through The Woodlands township rewards athletes who hold back and save their legs for the run. With Lange and Blummenfelt both capable of sub-2:45 marathon splits, execution from T2 will be decisive.

On the women’s side, watch for Knibb to push hard from the run start. Her running form has transformed since her Olympic distance days. If she keeps Matthews honest on the bike, the run could go down to the final kilometres.

The pro swim starts at 07:15 local time (13:15 BST) on April 18. Follow live timing via the IRONMAN app and the official broadcast at ironman.com/live.
