World Triathlon Cup Lanzarote 2026: First-Ever Race Preview

The volcanic island of Lanzarote is set to make its World Triathlon debut on Saturday 14 March 2026, hosting the first-ever World Triathlon Cup Lanzarote. Long established as one of Europe's premier winter training destinations, Lanzarote will now put its name on the elite race calendar — and the field is suitably impressive.

Race Details

The race takes place in Costa Teguise, in the north-east of the island. Athletes will race a standard-distance course — 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run — in conditions that reflect Lanzarote's reputation: warm, windy and challenging. The action will be broadcast live on TriathlonLive on Saturday 14 March.

Women's Field

The headline name in the women's race is Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR), the Olympic silver medallist who is making only her second World Cup appearance since 2020. Alongside her is Germany's Laura Lindemann, the anchor leg hero of Germany's Olympic gold medal-winning Mixed Team Relay in Paris. Expect a fast, tactical race from two of the sport's most consistent performers.

Men's Field

The men's race features David Cantero del Campo (ESP), the 2025 WTCS Final silver medallist, and Dorian Coninx (FRA), the 2023 world champion. Both are World Cup race winners and hungry for a strong result ahead of the WTCS season opener in Abu Dhabi on 28-29 March.

Why Lanzarote Makes Sense

Lanzarote is a logical addition to the World Cup calendar. The island has hosted Challenge Lanzarote for decades and is a favourite pre-season training base for professional triathletes across Europe. Its volcanic landscape, consistent winds and warm temperatures make for a unique and demanding race environment. This debut event is part of World Triathlon's expanded 2026 World Cup calendar of 19 races.

How to Watch

The race will be broadcast live on TriathlonLive on Saturday 14 March 2026. Check the World Triathlon website for start times and coverage details. The Lanzarote race sits between the World Cup Haikou (March 21-22) and the WTCS Abu Dhabi opener (March 28-29) — three weeks of elite racing that kick off the 2026 season.
