IRONMAN Texas 2026: Kat Matthews and Kristian Blummenfelt Lead North American Championship

The 2026 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas brings the North American Championship to The Woodlands on 18 April, with a $175,000 prize purse, six Kona qualifying slots per gender, and a start list headlined by two of the sport's biggest names.

The Athletes to Watch

Kat Matthews (Great Britain) arrives in Texas as the two-time and reigning IRONMAN Pro Series champion, the three-time and reigning IRONMAN Texas champion, and the current leader in the 2026 women's standings. Her swim-to-bike transition is consistently one of the fastest on course, and her ability to run a sub-3:00 marathon off a hard bike leg makes her almost impossible to beat on this circuit.

Kristian Blummenfelt (Norway) is the reigning men's IRONMAN Texas champion and current Pro Series points leader. The Olympic gold medallist has transformed himself into one of the most dominant full-distance racers in the sport, and he'll be looking to defend his North American title before the Series builds towards Kona.

The Course

Athletes face a 2.4-mile lake swim in Lake Woodlands — one of the most spectator-friendly swim courses in North America — before a 112-mile bike leg on mostly closed roads through The Woodlands and surrounding Montgomery County. The run is a three-loop 26.2-mile course through The Woodlands Town Centre, known for its crowd support and fast, flat profile.

The Stakes

  • Prize purse: $175,000 total professional prize pool
  • Kona slots: Six per gender to the 2026 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawai'i
  • Pro Series: Fourth stop on the 2026 Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series
  • First full-distance IRONMAN in North America this year
  • Start list: More than 100 professional triathletes

How to Watch

The race goes live on Saturday 18 April, with coverage available free internationally via IRONMAN's YouTube channel, ironman.com/proseries, and DAZN. Check ironman.com for exact wave times in your time zone.

Our Prediction

With over 100 professional athletes on the start list, this is one of the deepest fields IRONMAN Texas has ever seen. If conditions are warm and the course plays to raw power, expect Blummenfelt and Matthews to defend their titles — barring a mechanical or a surprise from the strong American contingent chasing those Kona spots.
