T100 Gold Coast 2026: Race Preview, Course Guide and How to Watch

The 2026 T100 Triathlon World Tour gets its first race underway on 21–22 March in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. This is a landmark event — not only is it the opening round of the newly revamped T100 World Tour, but it marks a long-term partnership between the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and Events Management Queensland.

What is the T100 Triathlon?

The T100 format is a 100km middle-distance triathlon — 2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run — contested at elite level on city-centre courses. The format was revamped for 2026 with single-gender race days (each race features either men or women, not both on the same day) and doubled prize money of $275,000 USD per event.

Gold Coast Course Overview

Swim: Surfers Paradise Beach

The pro swim takes place at the iconic Surfers Paradise Beach — one of Australia’s most famous stretches of coastline. Athletes will complete a sea swim in the warm Pacific Ocean, with conditions typically calm and supportive in March.

Bike: Gold Coast Esplanade

The 80km bike leg follows the picturesque Gold Coast streets, including the oceanfront Esplanade. The flat, fast course suits powerful riders and is expected to see very competitive average speeds. Wind off the ocean can play a factor.

Run: City Streets

The 18km run takes place on the Gold Coast city streets, providing a spectacular backdrop for the closing stages of the race. Spectator access is excellent throughout the run course.

Race Schedule

  • Saturday 21 March: Olympic Triathlon (age-group, 6:00 AM local)
  • Sunday 22 March: 10km Run (6:00 AM) and 100km T100 Pro Race (6:30 AM)

Who to Watch

The Gold Coast T100 attracted a strong professional field from 15+ nations. The T100 format rewards all-round strength — athletes who can swim fast, ride powerfully on a flat course, and sustain 18km run pace. Watch for athletes who have excelled at Challenge Family and IRONMAN 70.3 races, as the format closely mirrors those demands.

How to Participate

Age-group athletes can enter the Olympic Triathlon on Saturday 21 March or the standalone 10km Run on Sunday. The 100km distance qualifies athletes for the Qatar T100 World Championships 2026 — the top 10 finishers per age group and gender earn a qualification slot.
