Garmin Acquires TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic: What It Means for Triathletes

Garmin announced on 22 July 2026 that it has acquired TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic from Peaksware Holdings — two of the most widely used training-log and coaching platforms in endurance and strength sport. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, and roughly 120 combined staff from both platforms are joining Garmin.

What’s Actually Changing Right Now

Nothing, in the immediate term. TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic continue operating as they did before the deal, and the existing Garmin Connect Autosync integration — which already syncs completed activities from Garmin Connect to TrainingPeaks, and structured workouts from your TrainingPeaks calendar back to a compatible Garmin device — is unaffected. If you already use both, day-to-day nothing changes yet.

What It Signals Longer Term

The strategic logic is Garmin owning more of the planning-coaching-analysis loop that currently happens around, rather than inside, its devices. TrainingPeaks Virtual (formerly indieVelo) also gives Garmin its own foothold in the indoor cycling/running platform space currently dominated by Zwift and TrainerRoad — a market Garmin hasn’t previously competed in directly. None of this is confirmed to produce a specific new watch feature soon, but it points toward tighter native integration between Garmin devices and TrainingPeaks’ coaching tools over time.

Should You Be Concerned About Platform Lock-In?

It’s a fair question if you use TrainingPeaks with a non-Garmin watch. There’s no indication yet that Garmin plans to restrict TrainingPeaks functionality for other device brands, and doing so would likely damage TrainingPeaks’ standing with the coaches who rely on it working across every platform their athletes use. Worth keeping an eye on as the acquisition beds in, but not something to act on today. See our guide to using TrainingPeaks for triathlon for how the platform works right now.
