UK Triathlon Racing: August and September 2026 Events Guide
The summer sprint season gives way to the late-season long-course calendar from August onwards — and for UK-based triathletes, August and September 2026 offer a compelling mix of domestic races, WTCS season climax events and the year’s most prestigious long-course finales. Whether you are targeting your first 70.3 or chasing a Kona slot, here is your guide to the key events.
World Series and International Highlights
WTCS Weihai — 29 August 2026
The final WTCS race before the Grand Final heads to Weihai, China — a fast, flat course that has historically suited non-climbers. With the Grand Final qualification standings tightening in August, expect desperate racing from mid-table athletes trying to cement their top-10 Grand Final berths. Chinese athletes have performed strongly at home events in recent years.
T100 Vancouver Women — 15 August 2026
The T100 series heads to Stanley Park in Vancouver for the women’s event. With Kate Waugh having won both Gold Coast and Singapore in 2026 to lead the PTO rankings, a third consecutive T100 win would effectively clinch the season title. Paula Findlay racing on home soil in Canada is a compelling subplot. The Vancouver circuit is technically demanding with significant climbing on the run course — a course that should suit the stronger runners in the field.
WTCS Karlovy Vary — 13 September 2026
The penultimate WTCS event before the Grand Final takes place in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. This is a crucial final qualification event — expect tactical racing as athletes manage points positions rather than going all-out.
UK Domestic Racing
IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth — 20 September 2026
Weymouth remains the UK’s most popular 70.3 — a fast sea swim in Weymouth Bay, largely flat bike course through Dorset lanes and a run along the seafront. Historically delivers excellent conditions with September sea temperatures in the 17-19°C range (wetsuit legal but sometimes marginal). A qualification race for the 70.3 World Championship. Entry via Ironman.com; typical sell-out time is within hours of opening.
WTCS Grand Final Pontevedra — 24-28 September 2026
Pontevedra in Galicia, Spain, hosts the season-ending World Championship Final across sprint, Olympic and mixed relay formats. Elite men’s and women’s WTCS world champions are crowned here. For age-groupers, this is the event you qualify for through national championships — British Triathlon allocates qualification spots via the national age-group championship circuit.
Key UK Domestic Events
- Yorkshire Triathlon — one of England’s largest mass-participation events. Sprint and Olympic distances in the Yorkshire countryside. Popular with Northern England athletes.
- Hever Castle Triathlon — iconic UK event in the grounds of Hever Castle, Kent. Sprint to Olympic, stunning swim venue. Typically late summer or early autumn.
- Cotswold Classic Triathlon — long-course event in the Cotswold Water Park. Middle and long distance options; good alternative for athletes who want Ironman-distance racing without the IRONMAN brand premium.
- British Triathlon Age Group Championships — the national qualifier for WTCS Grand Final age-group slots. Check British Triathlon’s website for the 2026 host venue and date.
Planning Your Late Season
August and September are the peak long-course race months in the UK. If you have an A-race in this window, your training peak should land 3-4 weeks before race day — meaning a July build phase with a taper starting in late August for a September race. For athletes targeting IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth (September 20), a 16-20 week training plan starting in late May would put you in the right window. The race-specific calendar page at the British Triathlon website (britishtriathlon.org) has the full 2026 domestic calendar with entry links.
