Challenge Roth 2026 Race Week Preview: Blummenfelt, Vincent Luis and the Greatest Show in Triathlon
Challenge Roth has long been considered the greatest long-course triathlon on earth. On 5 July 2026, it returns with one of the most compelling pro fields in recent memory — headlined by reigning Olympic champion Kristian Blummenfelt and, in the most anticipated debut of the season, WTCS superstar Vincent Luis.
The Race
Challenge Roth takes place along a 3.8km swim in the Main-Danube Canal, a 180km bike through the Bavarian countryside, and a 42.2km marathon run through the historic town of Roth. With a prize purse of €160,000 and a course record that sits among the fastest in the world, this is where legends are made. Race day is Sunday, 5 July 2026.
Elite Men’s Preview
Kristian Blummenfelt (Norway) needs no introduction. The Olympic gold medallist and former Ironman World Champion has shown he can compete and win at every distance. He arrives at Roth as one of the favourites, though Challenge Roth rewards consistency and patience as much as raw speed.
Vincent Luis (France) is without doubt the story of the race. The double world triathlon champion — one of the greatest short-course athletes of his generation — is making his full Ironman-distance debut here. Luis, 34, won both the WTCS and T100 titles in recent seasons. Now he faces a 180km bike followed by a 42.2km marathon. The question everyone is asking: can short-course speed survive the long game? Luis has the VO2max and the race intelligence, but managing an Ironman’s metabolic demands is an entirely different challenge.
Jonas Schomburg (Germany) is a home favourite who excels in Bavarian heat and knows the Roth course intimately. He has the run to stay in contention late in the race. Henri Schoeman (South Africa) and Aaron Royle (Australia) round out a field with real depth — 31 elite men in total who will push the pace from the canal swim.
Elite Women’s Preview
The women’s race carries enormous emotional weight this year. British professional Laura Siddall, one of the most respected figures in long-course triathlon, has confirmed Challenge Roth 2026 as her final professional race. Siddall has raced Roth multiple times during her career and chose this course for her farewell. Expect a guard of honour from the Roth crowds who know her story well.
The women’s field of 20 elite athletes also includes several strong contenders targeting the course record and the €160,000 prize purse.

Our Prediction
Blummenfelt is the smart pick — he has done this before and does it better than almost anyone. But the intrigue around Luis is real. If the Frenchman paces the bike conservatively, his elite-level run could put him in podium contention. Siddall’s farewell will be the emotional highlight regardless of finishing position.
