Plenty of triathletes ride a road bike rather than a dedicated TT machine for training, brick sessions and shorter-course racing — and an integrated aero cockpit is one of the more effective upgrades for that bike, cleaning up cable routing and cutting frontal drag without the cost of a full frame change. Vision’s Metron 5D ACR Evo is the latest version of a cockpit that’s been through several generations, and this update focuses on shaving weight and stack height rather than reinventing the design.

Our Verdict

This is an incremental but genuinely useful update rather than a ground-up redesign — lighter, lower and stiffer than the outgoing Metron 5D, with better damping from a revised carbon layup that takes some of the edge off road buzz through the bars. The expanded fit range (stems from 80mm right up to 140mm, bars from 36 to 44cm) is a real practical improvement, since older integrated cockpits often forced a compromise between the ideal stem length and the ideal bar width. For triathletes running a road bike as a second bike for hilly training or shorter-course racing, this is a legitimate upgrade if you’re already committed to fully internal cable routing — just be aware that fitting an integrated cockpit is a bigger job than swapping a standard bar and stem, and isn’t something to attempt without the right tools or a shop’s help.

Buying Tips

  • Confirm your frame’s steerer tube and headset are compatible with a fully internal ACR routing system before ordering — not every frame is set up for it, even if it takes a standard round steerer.
  • Have a qualified mechanic fit an integrated cockpit unless you’re experienced with internal cable routing — rerouting hydraulic hoses and electronic wires through a one-piece bar and stem is considerably more involved than a standard bar swap.
