Suunto Core 2 Review 2026: Tested After Launch

The Suunto Core 2 launched globally on 21 July 2026, confirming almost everything we forecast in our April preview from the FCC filing — including our call that this would be a rugged ABC instrument rather than a GPS training watch. We’ve cross-checked the launch specs against Suunto’s own product pages, T3 and Gadgets & Wearables to bring you a straight verdict on whether it belongs on a triathlete’s wrist.

What’s Actually Confirmed

• 1.3-inch LED dot-matrix display — protected by Gorilla Glass, with a switchable red/green backlight and a claimed 40% brighter panel than the original Core.
• 10ATM water resistance — a major jump from the original Core’s 3ATM, plus MIL-STD-810H durability certification.
• 15-month replaceable CR3032 battery — no charging cable required; you swap the coin cell when it runs down.
• 49mm x 14.8mm case, 56.5g — altimeter, barometer, compass, storm alarm, moon phase, sunrise/sunset, step counter and a freedive depth meter to 2m.
• Bluetooth connectivity — pairs to the Suunto app for step data, but there is still no GPS.
• Price — £155 in the UK, $199 in the US, €199 in Europe.

Is It Right for Triathletes?

Be clear on what this watch is before you buy it: there’s no GPS and no swim/bike/run training metrics, so it won’t log a session, track pace, or record a route. Suunto has deliberately kept the Core 2 as a simple, extremely long-lasting instrument watch — altitude, pressure, direction and a battery that outlasts almost anything with a screen. That makes it a genuinely good backup watch for expedition-style training camps, hiking recovery days, or as an everyday/travel watch that never needs charging, but it is not a replacement for a multisport GPS watch on session days.
