Best CO2 Tyre Inflators for Triathletes 2026: Fast Inflation When It Counts

A flat tyre in a race can cost you minutes — unless you have a CO2 inflator. Unlike a mini pump, CO2 re-inflates a road tyre to race pressure in under 10 seconds. Here are the best options for triathletes in 2026, all available from Tredz.

Why CO2 Over a Mini Pump?

  • Speed — 10 seconds vs 2–3 minutes to reach 100+ psi
  • Size and weight — a 16 g CO2 cartridge weighs 28 g total, a mini pump 100–200 g
  • Ease under pressure — no frantic pumping in transition or mid-race
  • Trade-off — one-shot use; always carry a backup cartridge

Peaty’s Holeshot CO2 Inflator — Best Overall

The Peaty’s Holeshot works with 16 g threaded cartridges and features a trigger-controlled flow valve — you can stop mid-inflation to check pressure. Compact, reliable and road-specific. £24.99Check price on Tredz. Affiliate link.

Lezyne Control Drive CO2 — Best Dual-Use

The Lezyne Control Drive doubles as a mini pump when you run out of cartridges — a useful insurance policy on long training rides. The chuck fits both presta and schrader valves. £21.95Check price on Tredz. Affiliate link.

How to Use a CO2 Inflator

  • Remove the valve cap and attach the inflator chuck securely — a loose fit wastes the entire cartridge
  • Screw in the CO2 cartridge; on trigger-valve models, hold the trigger closed until ready
  • Release gas in one steady 3–5 second burst; on trigger models, release slowly and check pressure by feel
  • Remove the chuck, replace the valve cap and check pressure with a gauge if carrying one
  • Dispose of the empty cartridge in a recycling bin — they are aluminium

What to Carry

For races: one inflator + two 16 g cartridges + one spare tube. For training: add a mini pump as a third backup. Store cartridges away from direct sunlight and heat.
