What the retailer lists

  • Arms: hollow carbon fibre, which SRAM says are 29 g lighter than the previous generation.
  • Chainring: a direct-mount aero ring with X-SYNC wide-tooth, narrow-tooth teeth, in 48T or 50T.
  • Arm lengths: 160, 165, 167.5, 170, 172.5 and 175 mm, including SRAM’s first carbon 160 mm arm.
  • Bottom bracket: DUB.
  • Power: the crank can be upgraded to a power meter.

Where it fits for triathletes

The points below are our reading of the listed features, not test results.

  • Simple drivetrains. One ring removes the front derailleur, which suits a rider who wants fewer parts to set up and clean. Check your gear range against the courses you race.
  • Short arms. The 160 mm option is relevant to riders choosing a shorter crank for a more open hip angle. We have not tested the crank.
  • Price. At £499.99 it is £200.01 below the RRP.
