Vivobarefoot Primus Lite IV All Weather Review: Wet-Weather Barefoot Running
The Vivobarefoot Primus Lite IV All Weather takes the brand’s best-selling road shoe and adds water-resistant protection for wet-weather training. For UK-based triathletes who train through rain, this is the barefoot road shoe that won’t leave you with soaking feet by kilometre three.
Same Lite, Rain-Ready
The All Weather version keeps everything that makes the Primus Lite IV excellent — the wide toe box, the 2mm sole, the zero drop — and wraps it in a Pro5 puncture-resistant, water-resistant upper with TPU overlays on the toe box, midfoot, and heel. The result is a shoe that shrugs off drizzle and puddles while still feeling recognisably like a Primus Lite.
Key Features
- Pro5 water-resistant upper — Keeps out light rain and road spray without overheating your feet
- TPU overlays — Added protection on toe, midfoot, and heel for durability in poor conditions
- 232g weight — 50g heavier than the standard Lite IV, a small price for weather protection
- 2mm sole, zero drop — Full barefoot ground feedback maintained
- Removable Ortholite insole — Can be removed for an even more barefoot feel
Training in Wet Conditions
This shoe earns its keep during the months when you’d rather not run but know you need to. Early morning runs in February, wet brick sessions in November, rainy recovery jogs — the All Weather keeps your feet comfortable when the standard Lite IV would have you squelching. The TPU overlays also add longevity, which matters if you’re putting in the mileage that triathlon training demands.
Note that the upper needs about two weeks to break in fully — it’s stiffer out of the box than the standard Lite IV. Wear it for short walks before your first run to soften the material.
The Verdict
At £145, the Primus Lite IV All Weather is a practical investment for any triathlete who refuses to let rain cancel their run. It maintains the barefoot experience while keeping your feet dry enough to train comfortably through the worst of British weather. Pair it with the standard Lite IV for summer, and you’re covered year-round.
