HOKA Skyflow Review: Is It the Best Daily Trainer for Triathletes?

The HOKA Skyflow is HOKA’s answer to the demand for a premium, well-cushioned daily trainer that delivers both comfort and responsiveness. Built on HOKA’s supercritical EVA foam midsole and designed around the same last as the Skyward X, this shoe has generated serious buzz since its launch in 2024. But is it the right shoe for triathlon training?

Who Is This Shoe For?

The Skyflow is built for daily training miles and long aerobic runs — exactly what fills the bulk of a triathlete’s run training. If you are logging base miles, completing long runs on the weekend, or doing easy recovery runs after hard sessions, the Skyflow is an excellent companion.

Midsole: Supercritical EVA Foam

The supercritical foam delivers noticeably cushioned landings with a pleasant responsiveness underfoot. It is not the most propulsive foam on the market — that crown goes to carbon-plated race shoes — but for daily training, it strikes a very good balance between softness and energy return.

Heel-to-toe transitions feel smooth thanks to the MetaRocker geometry, and the Active Foot Frame raises the midsole walls to cradle the heel — reducing lateral movement and improving stability during long efforts.

Upper: Comfortable and Secure

The creel jacquard mesh upper is lightweight and breathable — important for post-bike run legs when your feet may be warm and slightly swollen. The dual-gusseted tongue locks the foot in place well, which means less adjustment during bricks or race-day run starts.

Fit note: Some runners report the Skyflow running slightly large versus other HOKA models. Try on before buying, or size down half a size if ordering online.

Durability

At 400–500 miles of lifespan, the Skyflow offers excellent durability for a premium trainer. A triathlete running 30–50km per week could expect 8–12 months of use from one pair.

Verdict for Triathletes

The HOKA Skyflow is an outstanding daily trainer for triathlon base-building. It is comfortable enough for long runs, responsive enough for moderate-paced efforts, durable enough for heavy training loads, and breathable enough for warm conditions and post-swim transitions. Not a race shoe — but one of the best daily shoes we have tested.
